Kendall County Democratic Women host Leon Springs history author
2/3/2009
The Kendall County Area Democratic Women will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Boerne Holiday Inn Express hotel.
Featured guest will be Marlene Richardson, co-author with Jeanne Dixon of a new book on the history of Leon Springs, “The Settlement of Leon Springs: From Prussia to Persia.”
The book represents a 25-year collaboration between the authors and includes, as much as possible, portions of numerous oral histories focused on the history of Leon Springs.
This includes stories about such things as the first “cross-county flight” from Ft. Sam Houston to the Leon Springs Military Reservation, Max Aue’s stage stop and commercial compound that eventually housed the original Macaroni’s Grill, and settlement in the area by Prussian nobles Dophie and George von Plehwe (whose little European-style houses still stand).
Richardson is a retired senior producer with KLRN-TV, San Antonio’s public television station.
KCADW meets monthly on the second Thursday. Call Gwen King at 830-755-4434 or Jean Robitaille at 830-981-4971 for further information.
